The Client:
The client is a leading Canadian Life Insurance Company that operates in the life insurance and financial services sector. They offer a range of insurance products, including life insurance, critical illness
insurance, and disability insurance.
What you will achieve in this role:
- Accurately evaluate risk within a specific approval limit of $2,000,000 for individual life and
$1,000,000 for critical illness policies.
- Mentor and guide junior and intermediate underwriters to ensure timely and appropriate coverage decisions and help foster effective communication within the team.
- Provide sound risk decisions and offer support to the Sales & Marketing and Retail Business line teams.
- Analyze financial and medical information to assess mortality and financial risk for individual life insurance applications.
- Support the Sales team in managing distribution relationships, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
- Lead assigned projects and actively participate as a team member.
- Provide training to junior and intermediate underwriters helping to contribute to the development of the team.
What you must bring to this role:
- 4+ years of experience in individual underwriting.
- Must be bilingual in French and English (Oral and written).
- Experience coaching and mentoring others.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, email, internet, and database computer software for effective utilization of technology in the underwriting process.
- Knowledge of medical and financial terminology.
- FLMI and FALU are assets.
- A university degree in life sciences, nursing, or kinesiology is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-resolution skills.
- Capability to work within and apply decision methodologies, ensuring adherence to the underwriting processes.
- Well-developed organizational skills to efficiently manage tasks and responsibilities.
