Senior Staff Accountant, Assurance & Advisory Services



Our client, a mid-sized tax and accounting firm is looking to hire a Senior Staff Accountant to join their team in Ottawa.


Job Overview:

The primary responsibility is to take a lead role in the performance of audit, review, and compilation engagements for a broad range of clientele, as well as assisting in tax compliance needs. A senior contributes to the success of the firm by working directly with management and partners to provide clients with high-quality service. Senior staff accountants have strong technical accounting skills and tax knowledge. They assist or may take the lead for the training and development of more junior staff. Their detailed duties may include the following:


What you will achieve in this role:

  • Take an active role in the planning of engagements
  • Conduct large audit and review engagements, including the design and modification of audit procedures.
  • Supervise junior staff
  • Prepare engagement working papers, financial statements, and client correspondence
  • Discuss financial statements and engagement issues with appropriate managers
  • Manage engagements from start to completion including consulting directly with clients
  • Participate in tax planning on corporate engagements
  • Prepare corporate tax returns
  • Understand client’s operations and industry
  • Gain insight into the scope of services provided
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships   
  • Significant contact with internal staff and external clients


What you must bring to this role:

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in a public accounting firm (preferred)
  • Professional Accounting Designation (or proof of successfully writing Common Final Exam (CFE) and in process of completing experience requirements)
  • Strong knowledge of assurance and accounting standards.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills (bilingualism is considered an asset);
  • Exceptional client relationship management abilities; and
  • Experience in Caseware/Caseview, Taxprep; MS Word and Excel software
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
